BREAKING NEWS: Curfew in Metro Manila To Be Lifted

MMDA Chairman Says Curfew in Metro Manila will be Lifted for Mall Operation

CURFEW IN METRO MANILA – Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Benhur Abalos said that the curfew will be lifted.

For more than a year now, the whole Philippines is under community quarantine measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The abrupt spread of the virus across the globe rocked several healthcare systems in different countries with some even collapsing due to the flock of patients.

In PH, there were several times when hospitals had to prepare for a possible spike in the cases of COVID-19. The virus mutated and cases of certain variants were detected in the country.

Currently, the Philippines is in pursuit to achieve population protection against COVID-19 through vaccination. The country has to vaccinate at least 70 million people. Metro Manila is currently under localized lockdowns.

Amid the holiday season now and the fast-approaching Christmas time and New Year, the officials are planning on ways to prevent another spike of the COVID-19 cases. It is expected that people will go out to malls for holiday preparation.

Mall owners and the MMDA talked about the possible adjustment in mall operating hours to place a gap between the opening and closing times of shopping malls with the peak hours or rush hours. They planned to move the mall operating hours which is from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

However, according to MMDA, the curfew in Metro Manila must be adjusted first. It was from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 a.m. An update regarding the matter recently crossed the surface.

Based on a report on the Philippine Star, MMDA spokesperson Benhur Abalos said that curfew in Metro Manila will be lifted starting November 4. It is in consideration of the mall operations amid the holiday season.
