Rejected Miss France Contestants Sue Pageant After Failing To Get In
REJECTED MISS FRANCE CANDIDATES – Contestants who didn’t make the cut in the latest Miss France pageant want to sue.
The angry rejects who wanted to take action against discrimination. As such, the Osez le feminisme (Dare To Be A Feminist) and the rejected candidates claimed that the pageant was “discriminating based on looks“.
Obviously, some pageants, especially large ones, have their own set of qualifications. Unfortunately for the rejected candidates, they fell short. Based on the group’s statement, the Miss France pageant requirements fall foul of French employment laws.
They added that women who want to enter the competition need to be 1.70 meters or 5 foot 5 inches tall. Furthermore, they need to be unmarried, and are a “representative beauty”.
However, under French law, it is illegal to discriminate based on morals, age, family, status, and physical appearance. Meanwhile, according to an article from This is a Local shop, Alyssa Ahrabare told local newspapers:
“Despite protesting every year against a competition that drives sexist values, nothing ever changes…
Trying to raise awareness is no longer enough, we’ve decided to use legal means to advance the cause of women”
On previous occasions, aspiring beauty queens were kicked out of the said pageant due to acting “contrary to good morals”. Still, the issue has persisted throughout the pageant’s history.
As per the article, the case was filed at the Paris court. Now, it would hinge on whether magistrates would consider pageant contestants as “employees” of the pageant itself and the TV company that airs the competition.
