Fans did a boycott campaign against Maine Mendoza
Phenomenal Star Maine Mendoza was asked to react to the boycott campaign that some of her “fans” did against her.
Apparently, the said boycott campaign started when Maine’s real-life sweetheart Kapamilya actor Arjo Atayde guested on her sitcom Daddy’s Gurl with Bossing Vic Sotto.
It is known to many showbiz enthusiasts how popular the onscreen tandem was of Maine with Alden Richards. Together, they were known as AlDub in Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye.
Despite its popularity, that onscreen partnership has ended. On the other hand, that did not end their fans to keep on supporting them. There were still those who continued to support Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza’s individual careers.
However, there were those who did not like that separation and so when Maine’s boyfriend appeared on her sitcom, the boycott campaign was launched by AlDub fans on social media.
From time to time, the hashtag for the boycott is resurfacing online. Based on the article in Pilipino Star Ngayon, the Phenomenal Star was asked to react to this during a recent media conference for the third anniversary of Daddy’s Gurl, Maine was asked what she felt about this.
“I invoke my right to remain silent para wala ng issue. Parang wala naman ng issue kasi. Alam n’yo naman ang hirap na. Kung ano po ‘yung lumalabas sa bibig natin, baka ma-misinterpret,” the Kapuso star said.
Previously, Chris Martinez, the director of the sitcom reacted to the boycott campaign not just their show but other shows that feature Maine. The director said that the boycott did not have an effect as the rating of the sitcom is still high.
Meanwhile, Maine Mendoza expressed that she is grateful as she continues doing her showbiz projects amid the pandemic.
