Mr. M attested to the popularity of Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards
In 2015, the phenomenal tandem was created in the longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga. Maine was known as Yaya Dub and she and Alden would just interact through split-screen format.
Indeed this created craze on television and it reached the point when they did their sold-out Tamang Panahon concert. This popularity of Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards as a tandem created a sense of worry in some TV executives.
Based on the article in GMA Entertainment, Johnny Manahan, who is now the creative consultant of GMA Artist Center, personally, did not panic, as he was still handling Star Magic back then, but executives did.
“Nataranta sila ru’n sa success nila Maine, ni Alden. And panic sila. Nag-panic. ‘Wala ba tayong ganyan?’ Ang sagot ko, ‘Mayroon kaming talent dito. Alam naming may talent pero ayaw n’yong gamitin,'” Mr. M revealed.
He added that he had a list of talents that could possibly make it big as well. “At least ten, really talented people. Pero hindi pinapansin ng mga executive,” the star maker shared. However, that was the mistake, the executives did not look closely at what they had.
Mr. M also shared that even back then, the Kapuso network is quick when it comes to launching new talents as the company was also willing to gamble a little for the newcomers.
He also explained that launching more talents means the odds are more as well compared to just two talents with just 50-50 chance. “So ayun. Taranta sila kay Alden at saka si Maine,” Mr. M said about the AlDub love team.
