Red Cross Valenzuela Warns Against Scammers Taking Advantage of Blood Units

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) in Valenzuela City has warned the public against scammers taking advantage of the blood units for people in need.

Scammers are using transactions in the blood of the sick as a modus operandi, according to the PRC-Valenzuela City Chapter. A delivery rider in a courier app was recently duped, according to a PRC-Valenzuela social media post.

The rider claimed to have catered to a client who had made a “reservation” for blood in the PRC-Valenzuela facility and was supposed to be transported to the hospital. The client allegedly ordered that the rider pays for it first, using an online payment platform at a convenience store.

According to the article, the PRC-Valenzuela did not mention whether the impoverished rider paid for it or not. Only the landline/ cellphone number of Valenzuela-Blood PRC’s Services (8277-0129/ 09989650772) can reserve blood and pick it up at their Blood Bank, according to Valenzuela-PRC.

The processing charge for blood units, as well as the membership fee, are only paid in cash directly to the agency’s headquarters, according to the agency’s statement. The normal first aid training fee can be paid in person at the PRC-Valenzuela office or by bank transfer to the PRC-BDO Valenzuela’s account number.

PRC-Valenzuela insists that no blood procurement or training transactions are made through online payment systems. “Watch out for SCAMMERS!” warns the PRC-Valenzuela to the public.
