Sen. Bato dela Rosa Reveals Stand on ICC Investigation Involving Pres. Duterte
BATO DELA ROSA – The Senator vowed that he will protect President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and himself from the ICC probe if he wins president.
Several presidential aspirants are incumbent government officials in the Philippines. One of them is Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa who filed his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for president during the last working hours of October 8, 2021, the deadline set by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).
Dela Rosa is the standard-bearer of the ruling political party, the PDP-Laban Cusi wing. According to him, he was informed at 3:00 p.m. last October 8, 2021 that he is the bet for president of his party. The call came two (2) hours before the poll body was set to close the period set for the filing of COC.
The former chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that he was told that their party to chose them as someone who can continue the legacy of Pres. Duterte. He went to COMELEC to made his bid for president official.
However, following what seemed to be unexpected on the last day of the period set for the COC filing, speculations that Sen. dela Rosa is just a placeholder and would be replaced crossed the surface. To this, the Senator stressed that he can run as he even won the 5th place in the senatorial bid.
One of the trending topics in the political arena now is the investigation of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on the drug war of the Duterte administration. To this, Sen. Bato dela Rosa expressed that he will protect himself and Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte from the probe.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Sen. Bato dela Rosa stressed that it is a mockery on the judicial system in the Philippines. According to him, he will allow the ICC to set foot in the Philippines and “to observe for themselves” but not to conduct a probe.
Previously, when he announced his retirement from politics, Pres. Duterte expressed that his plan is to go home to Davao City and to prepare his defense to the investigation of the ICC.
