Trump Sues To Shush, Keep Secret Records Of Capitol Attack
TRUMP SUES – Former US President Donald Trump did what he was famous for as he sues to shush and hide Capitol Attack records.
The Capitol riot in January made headlines after thousands of Trump supporters stormed the building. This came as then-President-Elect Joe Biden was being sworn into office.
But, prior to this, Trump had seemingly urged his followers to conduct the attack. Furthermore, following the riot, Trump did not condemn the people that rushed into the Capitol. Instead, he praised them for pursuing what they believed in.
Now, as Capitol attack records are asked to be released, Trump said he is suing to block White House Records from going public. Currently, Trump is claiming “executive privilege” to prevent giving evidence to Congress.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, the lawsuit said:
The committee’s request amounts to nothing less than a vexatious, illegal fishing expedition openly endorsed by Biden and designed to unconstitutionally investigate President Trump and his administration
However, no court has ruled whether or not the privilege extends to previous presidents. But, for now, Biden has the authority on the matter. As such, he allowed the first batch of documents to be released.
Because of this, Trump said that he would continue to fight the subpoenas on executive privilege “for the good of the country”. Earlier in the year, 57 senators, including seven from his own party voted to impeach Trump for inciting the Capitol attacks.
Unfortunately, this fell short of the two-thirds majority vote needed under Senate rules to impeach the current president.
