Mt. Province Mayoralty Bet Arrested After Caught with P2.2M Illegal Plant at Checkpoint
Police authorities arrested a mayoralty bet after he was caught in the possession of an illegal plant at the checkpoint in Mt. Province.
Due to a privacy concern, agents from the Philippine Narcotics Enforcement Agency (PDEA) detained a mayoralty candidate in Mountain Province for illegal drug possession. At a roadblock in Sadanga town, the candidate was allegedly captured with P2.28 million worth of marijuana bricks and leaves.

The suspect was identified by PDEA agents and members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) as a former cop who ran for mayor in Sabangan, Mountain Province, in the 2022 elections. According to the authorities, aside from him, he has countrymen who have been involved in the arrest.
His four companions, one a 17-year-old, were also apprehended. Aside from the illegal marijuana, ammunition for a 9mm gun was also seized. The suspects and evidence were taken to the Sadanga Municipal Police Station for processing, and the youngster was given over to the town’s municipal social welfare and development office.
In a separate operation earlier Wednesday in Sadanga, P18.4 million worth of marijuana bricks and stalks were seized. Three more individuals were apprehended during the operation, based on the report.
Gil Castro, PDEA CAR Regional Director, advised the population to remain watchful and promised to protect the Cordillera from any narco-politicians. The defendants are now facing charges of violating RA 9165, according to investigators.
