John Lloyd Crus changed his preference when it comes to his showbiz projects
A-list actor John Lloyd Cruz revealed the reason why he is choosing “difficult” projects now compared to what he has done in the past.
In 2017, amid his star status, John Lloyd took a break and went out of the limelight. However, in an interview, he mentioned that he can’t call what he did “hiatus” because he was still doing acting projects. It was revealed that he shot for a movie with director Lav Diaz and that explained his much-criticized “rugged look”.
Based on the article in Inquirer, during a recent online event, John Lloyd Cruz was asked about the transition that he made when it comes to his showbiz projects. “It’s true, gusto ko lang pahirapan ang sarili ko,” the A-list actor said about his “difficult” projects.
John Lloyd also cited what director Erik Matti, who was also part of the said online event, that when the audience no longer understands what a celebrity is doing, they tend to go to another channel. “The problem is when you have a lot of followers, but you can no longer offer something new to them,” he said.
John Lloyd admitted that initially, his goal was to just stay long in the industry by just working hard, being kind and considerate to others. However, he was wrong with this perception.
“You also have to think of yourself. I’ve proven that the choices I’ve made in the past cannot sustain me in this industry. I realized that I kept offering the same things to my audience until there was no more room for growth, not just for the viewers but also for myself,” the A-list actor stressed.
Then, he said that the day came that he would want to have a difficult project for his own growth and he is not mindful even though he will lose his audience who preferred the past version.
John Lloyd Cruz said that his focus now when it comes to his audience, is those who chose to stay with him even though he made changes in his life as an actor. He added, “Now, more than ever, we have to be critical of everything. We also have to be creative about what we are creating.”
