La Union Government Shutdowns Illegal Quarry Caught Operating Amid Prohibition

The local government of La Union has ordered a shutdown against the illegal quarry that was caught operating despite the ordinance prohibiting the activity.

For allegedly breaking the law and existing laws, the provincial government has shut down unlawful quarrying operations on the Aringay River in Tubao. The provincial administration ordered an ‘Edelberto Garcia’ to ‘cease and desist’ their actions in the area in a letter delivered to him.

Failure to do so, much to our regret, will force us to support the subject for appropriate action to the Provincial Mining and Regulatory Board, according to the letter. This illicit activity was only found after a reputable source reported it, therefore the La Union LGU acted quickly.

Garcia’s industrial sand and gravel permit in La Union is up for renewal, but the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) discovered that the quarrying area is outside the permit’s designated area. It may be responsible for violating Article 9, Section 2A of Provincial Ordinance Number 274-2021 if it allegedly fails to comply with the directive of the La Union Provincial Government.

Meanwhile, authorities in Dona Remedios Trinidad, Bulacan, confiscated P351,000 in ‘illegal logs’ and arrested four people during an anti-illegal logging operation in Sito Sumacbao, Barangay Kalawakan. Christian Lungalong, July Tamayo, Aldrin Jay Berin, and Rodel Dayson were among those arrested.

The operators intercepted illegally cut Lauan and Tangile lumbers, according to the report. Criminal charges will be brought against the suspects.
