Chavit Singson Withdraws Vice Gov Candidacy to Avoid Conflict vs Son

Chavit Singson Withdraw Candicacy from Vice Gov Race to Avoid Conflict Against Son

Narvacan, Ilocos Sur Mayor Luis ‘Chavit’ Singson withdraw his candidacy for the vice governor race to avoid conflict against his son running the same position.

Chavit formally stopped a probable face-off by dropping his candidacy in favor of his son, Governor Ryan Luis Singson, in the 2022 election. Chavit and his son Ryan have already submitted their nomination papers for the position of vice-governor of the province.

Ryan is the province’s current governor, and he is serving his final term. With the elder Singson’s departure, it was revealed that Ryan’s wife, Patch Savellano-Singson, had withdrawn her campaign for governor in favor of Chavit’s elder brother, Jerry Singson, who is running for governor.

Jerry is Chavit’s brother and his son’s running partner. As a result of this event, Jerry and Ryan Luis will face no opposition in next year’s elections for governor and vice governor, respectively.

“Masaya ako dahil maayos na si Gov. Ryan at Ronald. Kalimutan lahat for the sake of the family,” senior Singson said in a Facebook post.

Singson acknowledged that there had been some miscommunications inside the family circle, which resulted in family members competing for the same position. Meanwhile, Ronald Singson, another Chavit son, is running for reelection against Patricia’s father and Ryan Luis’ father-in-law, Deogracias Victor Savellano.

However, it is unknown whether one of them will withdraw for the sake of family connections. The Singsons and Savellanos have maintained their grip in Ilocos Sur over the years as they alternately rule the province.
