President of Jeepney Driver’s Association Shot Dead in Quezon City

The president of a jeepney driver’s association has passed away after enduring gunshot wounds in Quezon City.

The jeepney driver’s association president identified as Jessie Dela Cruz died after he was ambushed by unidentified gunmen in Barangay Unang Sigaw, Quezon City. He was shot inside his own vehicle on his way home.

Dela Cruz suffered multiple gunshots but was able to get out of his vehicle to seek help. He was found lying on the ground with serious wounds around 8:00 pm on Monday evening (October 4, 2021).

The victim has been rushed to the nearest hospital but eventually passed away. The residents narrated that they were alarmed after hearing multiple gunshots in the area.

According to the residents who witnessed the incident, the suspects are riding a motorcycle and wearing face covers to hide their faces and identities. The witnesses also failed to take the motorcycle’s plate number.

The victim’s relatives said that Jessie came from a birthday party in Caloocan and currently heading home to Sta. Maria, Bulacan when the incident happened. The latter was able to talk to his daughter via phone call before the incident.

“Ang sabi, ‘Uuwi na ako anak. Huwag mong ibababa ‘yung telepono.’ Tapos bigla-bigla na lang, sabi ng pamangkin ko, nawala ‘yung papa niya sa linya. Hindi na po niya alam kung anong nangyari,” the victim’s sibling said.

“Hiling po naming magkakapatid, na sana po mabigyan ng hustisya ang pagkamatay ng kapatid namin dahil ni sa panaginip hindi namin inisip na may gagawa sa kaniya ng karumal-dumal na pagbaril na talagang hindi bubuhayin,” Dela Cruz’s sibling added.
