Robredo Clarifies “Presidential Contender” Demands P1B to Be Her VP

Leni Robredo Debunks Fake News of Presidential Contender Demanding to Be Her VP

Vice President Leni Robredo clarified the fake news that a “presidential contender” demands P1 billion to become her running mate in the 2022 election.

Robredo moved to Facebook to debunk a circulating social media post alleging that a “presidential contender” was asking P1 billion in exchange for slipping down to vice president in the 2022 elections. Robredo maintained that the story is false and that no financial considerations were raised during her talks.

“I was informed of a post circulating that, allegedly, a Presidential contender asked for P1 billion to agree to run as my Vice President. Wala pong katotohanan ito,” Robredo said in a Facebook post.

An anonymous post on social media earlier this week claimed that a presidential candidate demanded P1 billion from Robredo, a demand that purportedly halted their negotiations. This is false information, according to Robredo, who also stated that “monetary consideration” was not discussed with any other potential participants in 2022.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, a presidential candidate, was also queried about the position, which he denied. Robredo did not even ask Moreno to be her vice president, according to Moreno. Robredo advised her followers not to “act like the trolls” in the face of misinformation.

While Robredo has yet to reveal her final plans for the 2022 elections, she has stated that she is making her decision based on what is best for the Philippines, rather than her political career. Robredo makes her most direct statements yet regarding a prospective presidential run in 2022. Robredo says she’s listening to the calls for her to run a week before the certificate of the candidacy filing deadline.
