DILG Tells Public “Mag Dala Pa Rin Ng Face Shield” Following New Mandate
FACE SHIELD UPDATE – Interior Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya urged the public “magdala pa rin ng face shield”.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Philippines imposed several laws in a bid to prevent the virus’ spread. As such, the Inter-agency Task Force on COVID-19 implemented the face mask and face shield policy.
For over a year, the government required the public to wear both face masks and shields. However, despite criticism from experts regarding this, the country continued to implement the mandate.
But recently, President Duterte signed a law that lifts face shield requirements in open areas. Now, you only need to wear face shields in public “enclosed” areas.
Additionally, the Department of Interior and Local Government reminded the public to always bring their face shields. Based on an article from ABS-CBN, Malaya said:
Mas maganda magdala pa rin ng face shield, ’yun nga lang hindi na naman natin kailangang isuot ito most of the time kung tayo ay nasa outdoor setting…
Kailangang magdala po tayo kasi hindi natin alam kung saan tayo pupunta.
Currently, the Philippines is among the only countries that require face shields to be worn by the majority of the public. Meanwhile, as per the article, Malaya said the DILG is coordinating with the DOH regarding face shield updates.
“Kailangang magkaroon ng adjustment. ’Yung Department of Health minimum public health standard gagawan natin ng adjustment. ’Yung mga ordinansa ng mga local government units kung may mga penalties sila kailangan iadjust ito para mag-conform dito sa bagong naging direktiba ng ating pangulo”
