Doc Willie Ong Speaks on Decision to Run for Vice President

DOC WILLIE ONG – The celebrity doctor who recently announced his bid for vice president believes that the PH government needs a doctor.

The Election 2022 is fast approaching and the filing of the Certificate of Candidacies (COCs) to the Commission on Election (COMELEC) is set to start next month. Many incumbent politicians have already announced their bid for the next poll.

While most of those who have announced their political plans are already in the arena, there are also some who are coming from a different field. One of them is celebrity cardiologist Willie Ong.

Doc Willie Ong is popular on social media for his generosity in giving tips and pieces of health advice to the public. He is also not a total stranger in politics.

During the 2019 mid-term election, Doc Willie vied for a seat in the Senate. However, he did not win the election. Recently, many were surprised when Manila Mayor Isko Moreno announced that he is his running mate in the Election 2022.

Undeniably, many were impressed by Mayor Isko’s choice to have Doc Willie Ong as his vice president most especially in the time of pandemic now. The Manila Mayor asked the public to have them as a tandem as it is going to be six years of working together.

As for Doc Willie Ong, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he believes that a doctor is needed in the Philippine government. He stressed that aside from the COVID-19 pandemic, heart diseases have also greatly increased.

According to the cardiologist, Lito Banayo, the campaign strategist of Mayor Isko, called him on the day that his mother was about to be buried telling him that the Manila Mayor is “waiting” for him to be his running-mate in the next election.

Doc Willie Ong further shared that he was being convinced with the numbers when he told him that he has decided and he will run for vice president as “18 million lives are waiting”.

“I keep my eye on the ball. I’m not competing against them (Other VP candidates), we’re fighting against COVID. It’s a medical problem not a political problem,” he said.
