United States Plans To Lift Travel Bans for Vaccinated Air Passengers

Update on United States Travel Ban amid the COVID-19 Pandemic

UNITED STATES – The U.S. government is planning to lift the travel bans for all air passengers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

U.S. is undeniably one of the countries hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. Former President Donald Trump was vocal about blaming China over the spread of coronavirus across the globe.

During his term, Trump had to declare a national emergency to support the healthcare system of the country amid the spread of COVID-19. The nation recorded the most cases of coronavirus.

There was a change of administration in early 2021 but the biggest problem faced by the United States remains amid the transition – it is the pandemic. The country recorded cases of new variants of COVID-19 including the Delta variant which caught attention for its higher transmissibility rate.

In the pursuit to curb the spread of COVID-19, the United States implement travel bans. It was first imposed 18 months ago during the presidency of Trump. However, their European allies have longed to request the country to ease their restrictions for diplomatic relations.

Recently, an update about the travel bans in the United States crossed the surface. Based on an article on ABS-CBN News, the country is planning to lift the restrictions by November for fully vaccinated air passengers.

According to U.S. coronavirus response coordinator Jeffrey Zients, the new approach may take effect starting early November. The fully-vaccinated air passengers must undergo testing.

However, currently, it is still not clear if the country has specific requirements for vaccine brands. According to Zients, it would be decided by the US Centers for Disease Control.

In case it would be pushed through, the new system would require the air passengers to present proof that they are fully vaccinated before boarding planes bound for the U.S. They also need to present proof of a negative COVID-19 test that must have been taken three (3) days before the flight.
