Lea Salonga also experienced rejections
Internationally acclaimed singer-actress Lea Salonga shared how she handled audition rejections in the past.
With her many years in theater, and doing TV or movie projects, Lea has already portrayed various roles that showcased her talent and professionalism. Just like many, if not all artists, she also went through auditions, and with this, she also experienced rejections.
In a recent Legends Only series of Bianca Gonzalez’s Paano Ba ‘To? vlog, Lea shared what she did after auditions in which she did not get the part. The TV host premised her question with the fact that Lea Salonga’s batting average was pretty good as she got all the roles she auditioned for from the age of 6 to 12 years old.
Having this record, the singer-actress was asked if how this shaped her perception of “rejection” or “failure”. Lea said that she experienced this during her high school years like joining the debate team but did not win.
She shared that she started auditioning for things when she was doing stints in the United Kingdom, New York, and Los Angeles. Lea said that the batting average changed a bit.
The theater star shared that she auditioned for something in L.A. but she got nothing. “So at that point, you have to realize that it’s nothing against you personally,” she said. Lea Salonga also shared that even her acting teacher would tell her that if she did not get something, it has nothing to do with her as a human being. “Don’t take rejections personally,” she said.
The singer-actress added that it just means that you are not the right person for that particular role for that particular time. Being a judge at times, like in The Voice, Lea said that it helped her realize what the other side is thinking.
As a judge, she wants the one auditioning to do well and when the time comes that she has to audition, she will be thinking that the judge would also want her to do well.
