Duterte Says Blue Ribbon Committee Can’t Prove Allegations Of Corruption

DUTERTE TO GORDON – President Rodrigo Duterte says the blue ribbon committee simply can’t prove its corruption allegations.

Recently, President Duterte and Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon had a heated exchange following investigations into Pharmally. According to lawmakers, several anomalies shrouded the government’s deal with the pharma firm.

Allegedly, the firm had overpriced the medical supplies it provided to the government. Furthermore, the firm merely had over P500,000 as capital but managed to secure a P8 billion deal with the government.

The investigation led to Duterte lashing out against Gordon. During his latest public address, he said Gordon was going on a “witch hunt” for political gain.

“Sabihin mo kung ano ang kulang para malaman namin. Ngayon kung mayroon kang nakita, ilabas mo na para malaman namin kung ano ‘yan. And because you cannot find any overpricing, or it’s because a witch hunt, a fishing expedition, or a political circus. Na kunwari sa panahon na ito, ikaw ang graft buster. Ikaw ang naghahanap ng katiwalian sa gobyerno”

Moreover, he emphasized that the investigations would simply fail to “produce anything to prove its accusation of corruption”. Additionally, the President also called Gordon a “despot” and mocked him for being overweight.

But, as a response to the President’s tirades, Gordon said that the anomalies amid the pandemic purchases proved Duterte is “not a president the Filipino people can respect”.

Amid the investigations, Gordon highlighted several suspicious activities, deals, and purchases, following Pharmally’s secured deal with the government. Last week, he noted how executives of the firm bought luxury vehicles months after the deal was made.
