DEPED UPDATE FOR TEACHERS – Earlier, Education Secretary Leonor Briones announced the requirements for in-person classes.

President Rodrigo Duterte recently approved the pilot run of the Philippines’ face-to-face classes. For now, face-to-face classes would be limited.

Furthermore, only low-risk areas for COVID-19 are allowed to participate. Additionally, Briones said that some 100 public schools and 20 private schools would be included in the trial run.

During an online palace briefing, Briones also stated an important update regarding teachers’ vaccination status. According to her, teachers and staff aged 65 and below without comorbidities are allowed to enter the program despite their vaccination status.

“This is because of the human rights declaration tungkol sa right of individuals concerning their health“, she cited. Along with this, she highlighted that vaccination of teachers is currently voluntary.

Meanwhile, an Inquirer article quoted Briones saying:

Sa tingin namin, napaka-significant na ng number ng teachers [na vaccinated], kasi we’re only talking of 100 schools, public schools and 20 private schools. Hindi siguro enormous ang challenge to have vaccinated teachers

Currently, the Department of Education (DepEd) has yet to disclose further details regarding the in-person class scheme. However, they said that the classes would be conducted on half-days. Moreover, classes would only be done every other week.

Still, no exact date has been announced for the pilot run of the limited in-person class scheme.
