Vice Ganda on Twitter Campaigns for Chel Diokno on Senatorial Race
VICE GANDA – The Kapamilya comedian took Twitter to campaign for Chel Diokno who is running for senator in the 2022 election.
The host of “It’s Showtime” proclaimed his support for human rights lawyer Chel Diokno’s re-election campaign for senator on Twitter. Vice tweeted on Wednesday, “CHEL DIOKNO FOR SENATOR,” which received 7,481 retweets and 35.4K likes.
Diokno stated that he will run for Senate again because there are so many inequities in the country. He believes that because President Rodrigo R. Duterte’s tenure is coming to an end and people have been more vocal about their dissatisfaction with the government, opposition candidates will have a chance to win next year.
However, he also stated that a united slate would give the opposition a better chance to win in 2022. Mr. Diokno initially stood for Senate in the 2019 midterm election as part of the Otso Diretso party, finishing 21st out of 62 senate candidates with 6.34 million votes, or 13.41 percent of the overall vote.
Former senators Manuel “Mar” A. Roxas II and Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, election lawyer Romulo B. Macalintal, former Solicitor General Florin T. Hilbay, and former Magdalo Party-list Rep. Gary C. Alejano were among those who participated in Otso Diretso.
On June 16, Diokno announced his intention to compete for president and vice president in the 2022 elections, after the opposition alliance 1Sambayan named him as one of their official aspirants. Diokno is the current chair of the Free Legal Assistance Collection, a group of human rights attorneys who assist activists, the impoverished, and journalists, among others.
