Roque Says UP Trying To Ignore & Erase His Accomplishments Due To Politics

ROQUE ON UP STATEMENT – Former human rights lawyer and current Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, thinks that the University of the Philippines is “conveniently” trying to “ignore and erase” over three decades’ worth of his accomplishments.

Recently, Harry Roque was trying to get himself into the International Law Commission (ILC). But, the UP Diliman Executive Committee opposed Roque’s nomination.

According to the committee, Roque had a “very poor track record of promoting, defending, and fulfilling human rights and the rule of law”. As such, Roque responded that he respects their rights to voice their opinions.

Furthermore, Roque emphasized that his acceptance of Presidential Spokesperson “will not please everyone”. Additionally, Roque also cited how UP would “conveniently ignore and erase over thirty years of hard work and concrete accomplishments“.

The Presidential Spokesperson explained that this was due to how his political views don’t align with that of UP. Based on an article from Inquirer, Roque stated:

However, the flimsy justification made to object to my nomination and election to the International Law Commission makes it clear that there are some sectors that will do everything to besmirch my good name, reputation, and integrity simply because I do not subscribe to and share their same political beliefs

Moreover, the former human rights lawyers said that he has been an advocate for human rights for over 30 years. Along with this, he said that he has spent his professional life representing sectors “who have needed to be championed”.
