Update on Metro Manila Community Quarantine Measure
METRO MANILA – The National Capital Region will be placed under granular lockdown and alert level system next week. It is the testing ground.
The Philippines is still battling against the COVID-19 pandemic. The existence of new variants of coronavirus in the country called for a more intensified fight. Travel bans are still up in the country now.
Among the several variants of the disease, the variant that hooked attention is the Delta variant. It alarmed countries for its higher transmissibility rate causing the spike in the cases in several nations.
In PH, local transmissions of the Delta variant were confirmed. The national government previously placed Metro Manila and several other provinces under the strictest level of quarantine measure, the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), for two (2) weeks to prevent the spread of the variant.
After two (2) weeks, the measure was downgraded to Modified ECQ. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, starting next week, after the MECQ expiration on September 15, 2021, Metro Manila will be under a new community quarantine measure alongside a granular lockdown.
Instead of a widespread lockdown, the authorities decided to pilot test the granular lockdown in which the measure to be implemented in the cities in the capital region may vary depending on their cases. Previously, the Department of Health (DOH) stressed that the widespread lockdown is no longer working well as many people need to go out for work.
The granular lockdown will come with an alert level system that will determine the protocols and the allowed capacity in establishments. Under the new strategy, the LGUs can lockdown specific areas as per a health official suggestion. Only the healthcare workers, emergency cases, and the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) will be allowed to go in and out of a place under a lockdown.
