Metro Manila GCQ Shift on Hold, To Remain Under MECQ

Update on Metro Manila Quarantine Status this September

METRO MANILA – The capital region’s supposed shift to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) is on hold now and it will remain under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Amid the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the national government continues to implement quarantine measures in the entire Philippines. The country is in a race now to achieve population protection at the soonest time possible as the virus continues to mutate.

The variant of concern which is the Delta variant was detected in the country. According to the Department of Health (DOH), local transmissions are present apart from those recorded from returning overseas Filipinos (ROFs).

To prevent the spread of the Delta variant, the whole Metro Manila and several other provinces were previously placed in the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) measure. It lasted for two (2) weeks before it was downgraded to Modified ECQ.

Earlier this week, it was reported that the quarantine status in Metro Manila would be shifted to General Community Quarantine (GCQ) from MECQ. It will be alongside the implementation of the granular lockdown.

Supposedly, the GCQ in the capital region will start today but it is put on hold. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Palace announced that the MECQ will remain until September 15.

The pandemic task force decided to delay the implementation of the GCQ which will be paired with the granular lockdown and the alert level system. Under it, the different cities may be under different alert level systems based on their coronavirus cases.

According to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, in-door and al fresco dine-in services are still not allowed and as well as personal care services including salon and parlors. With regards to the religious services, they will be allowed as long as they are done virtually. More updates may be posted soon.
