Update on Metro Manila New Community Quarantine Measure

METRO MANILA – The capital region is under a new community quarantine measure starting today, September 7, 2021.

Currently, the Philippines is in a race against the spread of COVID-19 through the vaccination program. The target of the national government to achieve population protection is to vaccinate at least 70 million people.

Several brands of COVID-19 vaccines were procured and donated to the country. Among these are Sputnik V, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm, Janssen, Moderna, and Sinovac.

Aside from the vaccination, community quarantine measures remain up in the entire Philippines now. In fact, to fight the spread of the Delta variant which is of concern now because of its higher transmissibility, Metro Manila was recently placed under the strictest quarantine measure for two (2) weeks.

Amid the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) measure in Metro Manila, the vaccination program continued. Those who have vaccination schedules are allowed to go out.

The measure was downgraded and the national government recently decided the implementation of a new community quarantine measure. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, starting today, Metro Manila will be under General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

According to the report, it is going to be a pilot-testing of the GCQ in Metro Manila with the “granular lockdowns”. The Department of Health (DOH) explained that the entire lockdown of a region is no longer effective considering that people have to go out for work.

Also, the Health Department noticed that cases usually congest from a certain area. Under the granular lockdown system, there will be classifications of alert levels that will determine the allowed operation for establishments such as the following:

  • Alert Level 1 – 100% capacity
  • Alert Level 2 – only 50% capacity allowed
  • Alert Level 3 – 30% capacity allowed
  • Alert Level 4 – 3Cs are all closed
