Netizens React After Sorsogon Fishermen Threw “Tamban” Fish Due to Oversupply
Sorsogon fishermen have been dumping “Tamban” fish due to ‘bagsak presyo’ and oversupply but the online community reacts.
Nowadays, a lot of Filipino people were experiencing financial problem due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. Most people are doing their best to earn money or get food for their family.
The government and other organizations are urging the public not to waste food amid the health crisis. Wasting food during this time of pandemic is considered as an inhumane act.
The fisherfolks of Bulan, Sorsogon were already throwing sardinella or locally known as “Tamban”. The fishermen explained that the price of sardinella is too low due to oversupply of fish.
The price of tamban fish dropped from P700 down to P130 up to P200 only, which is quite low. The fisherfolks are already struggling to earn their capital and they are experiencing shortage of ice at the fish port, which be used for storage.
The residents were asking help from the local government unit to find a place where they can store the fishes. Some of them also asked help to bring the tons of tamban to the less-fortunate Filipinos needing food.
