Security Guard Charge with Homicide after He Shot an Alleged “Akyat Bahay” Thief
An alleged “akyat bahay” thief was shot to death by a security guard who is now facing homicide charges after he surrenders himself to police.
The 40-year-old security officer surrendered to police after shooting a thief in Quiapo, according to ABS-CBN News. Around 10 p.m., the guard was on duty at the ladies’ dormtel on Legarda Street when he was approached by the male suspect.

The alleged thief was equipped with an ice pick and was going to stab the guard, according to the police. As a result, the security guard retaliated by hurling a chair towards the suspect.
However, the man allegedly attacked him again, prompting him to fire his service weapon at the suspect. The suspect received a gunshot wound to the torso, which ended in his life.
The Manila Police District Homicide Section got closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the encounter, according to the newspaper. The man entering the neighborhood, who was apparently an “akyat bahay” thief, could be seen on the CCTV video.
At the crime site, the knife he was carrying was also discovered. The guard, who was already in police custody at the time of the incident, surrendered and was charged with homicide.
The security guard was adamant about not making a statement. According to MPD public relations officer Police Capt. Philipp Ines, the prosecutor will evaluate whether the guard’s shot was justified based on the facts gathered.
