Ospital ng Biñan Director Claims Health Workers Getting Sick Due to Long Working Hours and Lack of Hospital Staff
The health workers of Ospital ng Biñan were allegedly getting sick due to lack of hospital personnel and long working hours.
On Monday (August 16, 2021), Ospital ng Biñan director Dr. Melbril Alonte reported that some health workers in Ospital ng Biñan in Laguna were getting sick due to lack of personnel. Most of them are working up to 16 hours and even 24 straight hours.
Alonte said that hospital employees have common duty of eight hours but due to lack of personnel, they have to spend long working hours to address the increasing number of COVID-19 patients.
“Siguro po ang mga nagkakasakit na po dito sa amin, mga walo hanggang 10 na nakaleave kaya pinagkakasya namin yung oras po at tinutugunan pa rin yung mga kinakailangan ng mga pasyente,” Alonte said.
The hospital director has also sought help from the national government to send additional health employees to accommodate the increasing COVID-19 patients. Several patients are still waiting at a makeshift reception area inside the hospital’s parking lot for admission.
The health official said that the local government is trying to address the issue while the Department of Health have yet to send additional hospital personnel. The health department and Alonte would have a meeting to discuss the issue on Tuesday (August 17).
Alonte and DOH would also discuss other concerns during the meeting.
Laguna remains under an Enhanced Community Quarantine until August 20, 2021 to curb the increasing cases of the coronavirus disease.
