Comelec Maguindanao Employee Shot Dead in Broad Daylight in Cotabato City
Maguindanao Provincial Election Office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) employee was shot dead in a broad daylight while playing chess in Cotabato City.
The victim was identified as Jonathan Pagadas Ganta, 43, a resident of Purok Balabaran, Rosary Heights 10, where the crime occurred. The crime occurred around 8:30 a.m., according to City Police Precinct 2 commander Captain Rustum Pastolero, while the victim was playing chess with pals.

Based on the report of Mindanews, an unidentified suspect opened fire with his M-16 automatic rifle, instantly shooting the victim to death. Guiamad Utto Akmad, a “padyak” driver, the victim’s playmate in chess, was also transported to the hospital after being struck by stray bullets.
According to Pastolero, Ganta appears to be the suspect’s only target based on preliminary investigation. The assailants allegedly sped away on a motorcycle to an unknown part of the city after the hinous crime.
After many bullet wounds to the body, the victim was taken to the Cotabato Regional and Medical Center (CRMC), but the medics announced him dead on arrival. The report added that it could be due to a work-related reason, based on the revelations from close relatives.
The victim’s body will be buried at Guindulungan, Maguindanao, according to Muslim practice. The Cotabato City Police Department is currently investigating the victim’s shooting death, which may have been related to his profession.
