Janine Gutierrez Gets Rising Star Award for Her “Dito at Doon” Movie in NYAFF

JANINE GUTIERREZ – Kapamilya actress bags rising star award from New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) for her movie “Dito at Doon” with JC Santos.

For her portrayal in the lockdown film “Dito at Doon,” in which she partnered up with JC Santos, the fresh Kapamilya actress received the NYAFF Rising Star Award. The award-winning actress shared the announcement of the New York Asian Film Festival’s new international prize on her Twitter feed.

“We are thrilled to present @janinegutierrez with the Rising Star Award this year. Catch the North American Premiere of the sexy, sweet rom-com ‘Here and There’ on August 21,” the NYAFF message on their official social media account.

Janine replied, “So honored!!!! thank you @NYAFF!! second year to have a film part of your festival and I was so sad that for the second time, we’re still unable to attend – but now I’m just filled with gratitude. Thank you for supporting Filipino films and creatives,”

Janine’s award-winning film “Babae at Baril” was also the opening film for NYAFF last year, but she was unable to attend because of the pandemic. Apart from Janine, the Rising Star Award went to South Korean actor Bang Min-A for the film “Snowball” and Japanese artist Sosuke Ikematsu for the film “The Asian Angel.”

In the film “Dito at Doon,” Janine plays Len, a political science major student who is certified NBSB (no-boyfriend-since-birth). He’ll be able to meet and converse with JC Santos’ character Caloy, who is also a working student who became a delivery rider during the COVID-19 pandemic, while he’s in lockdown.

“Dito at Doon” was directed by JP Habac, who is also behind the 2017 rom-com film “I’m Drunk, I Love You” and the hit 2020 boys ’love series “Gaya Sa Pelikula.” Yesh Burce, Victor Anastacio, and Lotlot de Leon also star in the film. Last March, “Dito qt Doon,” with the worldwide title “Here and There,” premiered at the Osaka Asian Film Festival 2021.
