Government Imposes Heightened GCQ In Following Areas As Response To Delta Variant

HEIGHTENED GCQ – The Philippine government plans to establish stronger quarantine rules in the country to combat an increase in COVID-19 illnesses caused by the Delta variety, according to the Department of Health.

In an interview with reporters, Health Secretary Francisco Duque stated that stronger quarantine rules will be implemented in response to an increase in confirmed Delta variant cases. However, he declined to provide further information until Malacanang makes an announcement.

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Duterte approved the Interagency Task Force’s (IATF) recommendation to place Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro City, and Gingoon City under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) starting August 1 to 7.

Additionally, the following areas, according to an article from ABS-CBN, will be placed under a heightened General Community Quarantine starting August 1 – 15:

  • Metro Manila
  • Ilocos Sur
  • Cagayan
  • Bulacan
  • Laguna
  • Lucena City
  • Cavite
  • Rizal
  • Naga City
  • Antique
  • Aklan
  • Bacolod City
  • Capiz
  • Negros Oriental
  • Zamboanga del Sur
  • Misamis Oriental
  • Davao City
  • Davao del Norte
  • Davao de Oro
  • Davao Occidental
  • Butuan City

Following confirmation of the Delta variant’s local transmission, the OCTA research group has requested the government to impose a “circuit-breaking” lockdown on Metro Manila to prevent an increase in coronavirus illnesses in the city.

The National Capital Region’s municipal officials ask the national government to impose tougher quarantine restrictions in Metro Manila to combat the rising number of COVID-19 cases caused by the Delta strain.
