President Duterte’s Last SONA Draws Group of Protesters
MANILA – Several group of protesters have gathered on President Duterte’s last State of the Nation Address.
On Monday (July 26, 2021), various groups of protesters have conduct stage demonstrations for the last State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte. The rallyists are condemning the alleged abuse under the current administration.
The groups including Bayan Southern Tagalog, Kilusang Mayo Uno and other organizations have gathered at the University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman to lead the protest. The protesters marched from UP Diliman heading to Commonwealth Avenue.
The fishers’ group Pamalakaya have gathered at Quezon City and criticized Mr. Duterte for allegedly being a coward when it comes to defending the country’s sovereignty and ownership of disputed island.
The Philippine National Police Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar roamed around the police outpost in Commonwealth Avenue. The Philippine National Police have deployed over15, 000 cops throughout Metro Manila.
Eleazar also reminded the policemen to allow the protesters with their demonstrations and advised them to observe maximum tolerance. Cops were also instructed to implement the health and safety protocols.
The PNP chief also ordered the cops to prohibit minors and senior citizens to join rallies. The police officers have been deployed at US Embassy, Liwasang Bonifacio, Padre Faura in front of Supreme Court, and Mendiola wherein the protests are usually held.
Progressive groups Kilab Multimedia held an anti-SONA rally at Bankerohan Public Market, Agdao and Roxas Avenue in Davao City.
