The Bureau of Immigration (BI) deported another nine (9) fugitive Japanese nationals wanted of large-scale telecommunication fraud.

Based on the report, Matsuoka Shunjiro, Haga Kenji, Yoshizawa Shinichi, Takeda Tasuya, Araki Toshiya, Ogawa Takuma, Hiramura Takashi, Kiya Yasuke, and Ichimura Shuichi were among the deportees. The nine foreign nationals were members of a syndicate that is involved in large-scale telecom fraud and extortion ring.

Agents from the Bureau of Investigation’s Fugitive Search Unit apprehended the Japanese fugitives in a hotel in Makati City in November 2019. According to the immigration bureau, only just two offenders were initially targeted in the arrest, but the operation resulted in the arrest of additional 34 others who were caught participating in the same behavior.

“They were involved in voice phishing and telephone fraud operations that targeted Japanese,” said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente.

Ten more of them were recently deported to face their cases in Tokyo, as previously reported. According to BI Commissioner Jaime Morente, the fugitives have also been placed on the BI’s blacklist, preventing them from returning to the nation.
