NPA Rebels Disgruntled Burn Haul Truck in Surigao del Sur Due to Failed Extortion
New People’s Army (NPA) rebels become disgruntled and burn a haul truck due to failed extortion after owner refused to give money.
In a rural spot in Cortes, Surigao del Sur, the rebel allegedly set fire to the PHP1.7 million carrying truck. The truck was destroyed in Palo 8, Barangay Matho, due to failed extortion, according to Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Office Director Col. James Goforth.
According to Goforth, the owner of the truck that sells falcata trees, Emmanuel Suarez, allegedly refused to give in to the rebels’ extortion demands. According to the local police inquiry, the truck was on its way to Palo 8 when it was stopped by an unknown number of NPA insurgents.

Suarez did not deliver the money the terrorists sought, according to the insurgents. The rebels then set fire to the vehicle, telling the driver that it was a warning to the owner who had refused to comply with their demands.
The militants also poured salt and sugar into the oil tank. Meanwhile, when government forces engaged the rebels in a gunfight in Daraga, Albay, one NPA member was killed and high-powered rifles and anti-personnel mines were seized.
The incident was sparked by a citizen’s complaint that an unknown number of terrorists were attempting to recruit new members. According to the report, joint government forces started security operations right away and confronted at least 10 communist terrorist groups (CTG) rebels.
The United States, European Union, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand have all designated the Communist Party of the Philippines-NPA as a terrorist group.
