DepEd Announces Duterte Approval For September 13 As School Opening

SEPTEMBER 13 SCHOOL OPENING ā€“ According to the Department of Education, President Rodrigo Duterte approved starting classes for School Year 2021-2022 on September 13.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, students and teachers shifted toward modular and distance learning. Due to the virus, face-to-face classes could no longer be an option. As such, students and teachers relied on modules and online platforms.

But, because of this, many students have expressed concerns about the new method not being as effective. For many, the new system only provided students with “tasks and assignments” instead of actual learning.

However, for DepEd, their new method was still effective as a high percentage of students passed their subjects compared to in-person classes. But, with the new school year coming up, both students and teachers are hoping for a fresh start.

With COVID-19 vaccine roll-outs in the Philippines, the education department hopes that in-person classes could resume sooner than later. Currently, the Philippine government is aiming to achieve herd immunity, with 70% of the population vaccinated as the target.

We hope for our stakeholders’ continued cooperation and support as we prepare for another challenging yet worthwhile endeavor of educating our children amid a global health crisis“, said DepEd in a statement.
