Gov’t Makes Changes on Protocols for Children 5 Years Old & Up in GCQ, MGCQ Areas
CHILDREN – The national government now allows kids who are five years old and up in GCQ and MGCQ areas to go outdoors.
The whole Philippines is still under community quarantine measures due to the existing threats of the COVID-19 virus. This pandemic cost lives and posted a very huge challenge to several healthcare systems across the globe. It led the people to live a “new normal” kind of life.
In PH, Metro Manila which was tagged as the epicenter of the virus is currently under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with some restrictions. Most of the country are under a Modified GCQ while some provinces and cities that recorded high cases are under stricter community quarantine measures.
The quarantine measures got protocol or guidelines for the people. For more than a year now, the minors are prohibited from going to public places unless for very essential reasons.

Recently, the national government made changes on such protocol. Based on a report in ABS-CBN News, the latest guidelines from the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) against COVID-19 stated that children who are five (5) years old and up may now be allowed to go in specific areas.
The changes cover those who are living in areas under MGCQ and GCQ areas except for those that are under “heightened restrictions”. Based on the report, Metro Manila is covered since it is under “with some restrictions” until May 15. Here are the places wherein children five (5) years old and up would be allowed:
- playground
- park
- beach
- outdoor tourist sites
- biking trail
- hiking trail
- al fresco dining establishments
- outdoor non-contact courts and venues
Reportedly, kids five (5) years old and up are still not allowed in shopping malls. According to the IATF, the local government units are allowed to adjust the protocols based on the situation in their areas.
