Taal Sulfur Dioxide Level In Taal Highest Recorded, DOH Warns Public

TAAL VOLCANO – Following its unrest, Taal Volcano spewed a high level of Sulfur Dioxide, promoting the Department of Health (DOH) to warn the public.

Earlier, DOH officials warned the public not to visit areas around Taal Volcano. According to Dr. Voltaire Guadalupe, Calabarzon’s head of Health Emergency Medical Service, residents exposed to the Sulfur should immediately take a bath.

Furthermore, they should thoroughly wash the areas exposed to the toxic substance. This is due to sulfur possibly causing “irritation of the respiratory tract”.

Additionally, protective gear is required if people need to go near Taal. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Guadalupe stated:

Siguro mas maganda na ‘wag natin papagpagin ang ating mga damit or other surfaces when we have been to areas with high sulfur dioxide emissions

Currently, Taal has spewed over 22,000 tons of sulfur dioxide per day. This would be the highest level ever recorded since last year when it erupted.

Last year, Taal Volcano emitted 5,000 tons of sulfur dioxide. Meanwhile, last week’s measurement was recorded between 13,000 to 14,200 tons.

Because of this, residents living near Taal Volcano island have evacuated into safer areas. Moreover, Taal’s current alert level remains at Level 3.
