Senator Lacson Laments Making Fun of Taal’s Deadly Crater is Not Funny
Senator Lacson stressed out that cracking jokes and making fun of Taal Volcano’s deadly crater is not funny.
On Friday (July 2, 2021), Senator Panfilo Lacsson lamented on his Twitter post that making fun of Taal Volcano’s deadly crater while people are in fear of possible eruption is not funny.
“While people are panicking and serious evacuation work is ongoing in some Cavite and Batangas municipalities threatened by the eruption of Taal volcano, making fun of its deadly crater is not funny,” Lacson tweet.
Lacson’s statement camed after President Rodrigo Duterte made a joke a putting a cap at Taal Volcano’s main crater during a press conference of LRT 2 East Extension Project’s inauguration.
However, the president assured the affected residents the Department of Social Welfare and Development had prepared relief goods and assistance in case of possible eruption.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) around 1, 282 residents are already staying at evacuation centers after the volcano erupted. The number of evacuees may increase to 14,495 people due to Taal’s magmatic unrest.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) continues to monitor the status of Taal Volcano, which is currently under Alert Level 3.
