Trike Driver Arrested for Allegedly Selling Counterfeit Cigarettes in Nueva Ecija

Authorities arrested a trike driver an alleged vendor of counterfeit cigarettes after caught peddling the said illegal cigarettes in Nueva Ecija.

In Barangay Picaleon, General Natividad, Nueva Ecija, a 21-year-old trike driver was apprehended while smuggling counterfeit cigarettes. When the suspect was apprehended, members of the General Natividad Police Department were conducting an OPLAN Sita, according to the report.

Raymond Santos Baldedara, a resident of Bantug Hacienda, Nueva Ecija, was identified as the suspect. Baldedara was allegedly carrying 40 reams of counterfeit cigarettes on the tricycle he was riding.

Two Moon cigarettes, which are illegal, cost P10,000 were confiscated from the suspect. Meanwhile, the arrested person was accused with breaching Republic Act 8293, or the Philippine Intellectual Property Code.

Meanwhile, a motorized wooden sailboat, colloquially known as the “jungkong,” was intercepted filled with 90 cases of contraband cigarettes. The contraband, valued at P3.150 million, was discovered off the coast of Baliwasan, a coastal village within Zamboanga city proper.

Another jungkong was intercepted an hour later off the coast of Mariki, a small community. The “Yasmeen” boat was carrying 70 cases of contraband tobacco valued at P2.450 million.
