FDA Says Getting Vaccination Only Way To Prevent Spread New COVID Mutations

VACCINATION IS THE ONLY WAY – To Prevent the spread of new Variants, the Food and Drug Authority says the public should get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Philippines has struggled to contain its spread. Furthermore, the presence of new, more contagious variants poses more threats to the country.

But, with vaccines available, the Philippines has a chance to achieve herd immunity. As such, the government continues to push its COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Meanwhile, FDA director-general Eric Domingo said that COVID-19 vaccines would still be effective against severe COVID-19 infection. This, despite its protection being reduced by other variants.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, a UK study revealed how the new variants diminished Pfizer’s vaccine efficacy to 89% from 94%. Meanwhile, it reduced Astrazeneca’s to 59% from 70%.

During an interview with Teleradyo, Domingo stated:

It’s also the only way to stop the variant from coming in kasi habang dumadami ang transmission, lumalaki ang chance na nagmumutate ang virus

Kahit makapasok ang bagong variant may protection pa rin po lalo na sa severe disease, sa pagkaospital at pagkamatay, he added. Currently, the Philippines has reported 17 cases of the new “Delta” COVID-19 variant.

As of Yesterday, the total reported number of cases rose to a total of 1,372,232. Of this number, 49,862 were tagged as active cases.

The Philippines aims to achieve herd immunity this year with a goal of 58 million vaccinated individuals. So far, a total of 8,407,342 jabs were administered across the country.
