Face Shields Can Be Removed Outdoors But Still Required Indoors, Health Department Says
The Department of Health (DOH) said that the Filipino people could remove their face shields when outdoors.
On Wednesday (June 16, 2021), the health department said that the public could remove their face shields when outdoors because the risk of transmission of the coronavirus disease in open spaces is slim.
Health Undersecretary Leopoldo Vega said the employees working outdoors are allowed to remove it but face shields are still required indoors. Vega said that the moist on the shields causes distraction to laborers.
“Pero ‘pag nasa outside naman, kasi alam naman natin ang risk of transmission is very low, at lalong lalo na kapag naglalakad ka lang sa kalye o kaya nagtatrabaho ka, kasi makaka-affect ‘yung moist nito so puwede niyo tanggalin ‘yan,” Vega said.
Previously, Manila Mayor Isko Moreno’s plead to remove policy requiring the public to use face shields when outdoors garnered various reactions. Health Secretary Francisco Duque III stressed out that the Filipinos must continue to use face shields.
The health department has yet to respond to the proposed revision of face shield policy. Vega also explained that wearing face shield indoor is needed especially when having a face to face interaction.
