This is the reason why John Lloyd Cruz sang this song for his TV comeback
A-list actor John Lloyd Cruz sang the song ‘Yakap’ for his much-awaited TV comeback through veteran host Willie Revillame‘s show for the special event of Shopee.
The said song was popularized by Spanish-Filipino singer Junior in 1979. In 2013, Charice Pempengco aka Jake Zyrus did a cover of this song and several artists also did their own versions.

Fans of Lloydie were definitely ecstatic when his showbiz comeback was announced after his four-year “hiatus” through the Crown Artist Management of Maja Salvador. This was hyped up by the announcement of Kuya Wil that the A-list actor will be doing projects under his WBR Productions.
On June 6, John Lloyd Cruz finally had his TV comeback in a show that was aired on GMA-7. After he was introduced, he sang ‘Yakap’. Based on the article in the Philippine Entertainment Portal, it was Willie Revillame who chose the song for Lloydie.
Aside from the fact that the song has a simple but popular melody, the lyrics also fit the circumstance. It was because of the anticipation of the fans to embrace their favorite star.

“Pinili ko ang ‘Yakap’ dahil maganda ang kanta at madaling kantahin. Ang tingin ko, gusto siyang mayakap ng mga nagmamahal sa kanya,” Kuya Wil said.
With this, entertainment columnist Jojo Gabinete said that the veteran TV host really knows the heart of the “masa”. It is because he always mingles with his audience and he is knowledgeable in this aspect of his show.
Indeed, those who heard John Lloyd singing ‘Yakap’ during that show had “LSS” or the “last song syndrome”. Even Rhian Ramos, the co-host of Willie Revillame on Wowowin’s June 7 episode shared that she has been singing the song while preparing in the dressing room.
