This is the highest offer Karen Davila has encountered in her entire career.
KAREN DAVILA – Veteran broadcaster Karen Davila was offered “name your price” and this is how she handled the situation when this happened.
Being in broadcasting for so long, specifically for 27 years 21 of which spent with ABS-CBN, veteran newscaster known Karen Davila admitted that there were times she was offered money or “suhol”. Davila is prominent for her firm and strong stand about current social and political issues. She’s also always articulate whenever she would share her thoughts about something.
And recently, in an interview with Ogie Diaz, she shared that a company has once bribed her with money and offered her “name your price” every month about a certain oil industry issue she did not disclose. This is surely mind-blowing because behind are these bribery happens. However, no matter how tempting the offer was that’s presented in front of her, she declined and confidently said right there and then that she never accepted a penny or a cent or anything form as “suhol”.
She’s brave enough to say that whatever commentary and narrative she makes on-air were not under the influence of “suhol”. She confessed, “I have never taken a single centavo in my life because I felt ayokong babuyin yubng propesyon ko. Hindi rin naman ako Ogie magiging ganito o rerespetuhin ng ganito kung kakalat rin eh.”
Davila believed that the world she’s in is too small that acts like this will eventually come out. She said that no matter how careful they may be to hide away these things, this will still leak and people will still know. She may be bashed and criticized but she’s never a “bayaran”. The female broadcaster furthered that she was accused of that thing and it is something painful for her.
Being accused as “bayaran” hurt her because she was actually making an effort not to do it but what’s important for her is that the Lord and her bosses know the truth. She declined every offer because even if no one will know, a fact remains that she knows what she did and also aware that she did isn’t right.
