Here’s the stand of Miss World Philippines and Miss Philippines Earth on transwomen contestants

Some beauty pageants around the globe are already accepting transgender women contestants and here are the views of Miss World Philippines and Miss Philippines Earth on this matter.

These past few years, several pageants for women have opened their doors to those who went through gender change and are now being recognize as transwomen. For some pageant fans, this is just fine to promote equality, however, there were those who believe that it is unfair for natural-born women.

In line with this, the Miss World Philippines Organization released this statement through. Based on the article in Philstar Life, here is the statement from MWP national director Arnold Vegafria of ALV Pageant Circle:

“In the interest of gender diversity and equality, the Miss World Philippines organization proudly embraces transgender inclusion in its annual pageant. This means that we are not closing doors to transgender candidates for as long as they comply with all of the Miss World Philippines’ rules and regulations.”

However, the statement added that since the international pageant, Miss World, only accepts candidates who are natural-born women and so “transgender candidates are automatically disqualified from winning the Miss World crown.”

Transwomen can still join the Miss World Philippines pageant and if they win, they will be sent to “other trans-inclusive affiliate pageants under the ALV Pageants Circle’s roster.”

For the Miss Philippines Earth, Lorraine Schuck, CEO of Carousel Productions, said this:

“Miss Earth remains to be a traditional beauty pageant, and in the spirit of fairness to the rest of the women participating and to keep a level playing field, we find it in the best interest of the organization to follow the current rules, policies and guidelines of previous years. But, we do fully support transgenders in their own respective beauty pageants and competitions, and believe that we all can shine in our own way.”

The statement added that in other fields such is in sports, there are different divisions, age or weight brackets, etc., to maintain a “level playing field”. This is to show fairness in all participants. With this, Miss Earth wants to maintain a balanced competition.
