Facebook To Ban Politicians From Posting Deceiving Content On Platform

FACEBOOK POLICY – The largest social media platform in the world plans to ban exemptions from politicians which enables them to post “deceptive or abusive” content.

Furthermore, they would also be given the same accountability as other users, news outlets, and media websites. Additionally, the policy shift would come after Trump was initially suspended on the platform and Instagram.

Earlier this year, Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol causing massive damage in protest of President Biden’s win in the elections. But, instead of condemning the dangerous acts of his supporters, trump went online and posted a video saying “We love you, you’re special”.

This led to Facebook and other social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook suspending Trump due to fears of further inciting violence. Meanwhile, Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s CEO, put his foot down and permanently banned Trump from using the platform.

This led to Zuckerberg being given six months to justify why the ban should become permanent. Furthermore, due to the previous policies in Facebook, the ban opened vulnerabilities in the policy.

Upon its inception, Zuckerberg always believed that private companies should not leave people to their opinions. However, given the situation in the U.S., especially during the Capitol Riots, Zuckerberg decided that an update was long due.

On the other hand, Trump’s camp expressed that Facebook was censoring the former President. Moreover, Trump’s supporters shared the same sentiment saying Facebook was deliberately trying to silence Trump.
