The life now of Joy Mendoza following a vile and traumatic past with seven men.
JOY MENDOZA – Loaded and powerful, Joy Mendoza speaks about forgiveness and this is her story that will teach you a lesson.
Forgiveness is such a powerful word and being extended to people who don’t deserve it after they have done something bad and really traumatic to you is difficult. Night of February 7, 1992, several men in masks and heavily armed came over the house of 15-year-old Joy Mendoza uninvited and went straight ahead to get things and money from them.
But apart from those material objects, they also got Joy who is in a towel and about to shower. In tears, Joy confessed to Toni Gonzaga in Toni Talks what happened that night and how bad she was treated. She was told vile words and forced to do unimaginable things. They did it to her in her own bed, on the bathroom floor, in her brother’s room, and anywhere they want to do it. She was passed on to seven (7) different men. She was at the edge of her death that in a moment, she wished to be shot first. She was already expecting her death that night.
But amid those, there’s only one thing in her mind and in her heart and that is God. The word of God is instilled with her at a very young age and at that moment, she has nothing but trust and faith in God for she believed that they can touch her body but not her soul. She also believed that God has prepared her and allowed those things to happen.
Tears would well up every time she talked about it in front of Toni but finds comfort in the thought of God. Her life is a story of forgiveness, faith, hope, healing, strength, and restoration. And it all boiled down to one realization and that it was all a choice. It’s her choice to forgive and never let the tragedy define her. Joy is currently an inspirational speaker, spiritual leader, and active counselor to victims like her.
She is married to Edric Mendoza and they have been married for 20 years now blessed with six children. Edric and Joy met at the Ateneo campus both see each other as a heartthrob. From the very start, they have already managed to have a deeper connection to each other.
They dated for years but also went through some problems just like any couple. About her past, she did not instantly tell him about it. Instead, she took it slowly. Finding peace and security in him despite his standards in a woman, he accepted her despite her past and loved her fully. She believed he’s God’s present to her and so is she to him because he has this problem in the past that he was able to resolve when she came into his life.
