Congressman Caught on Camera Punched LGU Officials in Sorsogon

Hot-headed congressman caught on camera as punched and splashed water on local government unit (LGU) officials in Sorsogon.

On Friday, a peaceful meeting in the town of Irosin, Sorsogon, about the province’s Anti-COVID-19 knowledge caravan devolved into chaos. Representative Ed Atutubo of the 1st District of Sorsogon is accused of splashing water on a local government official and punching.

According to an ABS-CBN News article that has since been removed, Atutubo allegedly splashed water on Municipal Councilor Salome Navales during the said consultation as a result of the confrontation with the Caravan. The congressman’s defense is that he didn’t mean it and that it was an accident because he just showed the picture of the residents lying down and breaking a health protocol.

It was here that water was allegedly splashed on the councilor’s clothes when he showed the picture. Since the knowledge caravan’s goal was a minor, Navales had earlier asked Atutubo if there was any way to stop it from continuing.

Atutubo emphasized that the information caravan is being held in compliance with Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero’s Executive Order No. 12, which directed the creation of the COVID-19 task force on Information Dissemination to provide adequate awareness to the province’s youth on how to avoid infection.

Despite this, the commotion continued when Atutubo reportedly stabbed Lorenzo Ubalde, the town’s municipal administrator. Ubalde confessed to tapping Atutubo on the arm and remarking on his obnoxious conduct.

He was suddenly beaten by the congressman. Atutubo admitted as much, but in his defense, he wasn’t the first to throw a punch. They had no reason to doubt the knowledge caravan, according to Atutubo, because it had nothing to do with early politicking.

Ubalde and Atutubo were said to get along well. The incident was blotted out by Navales, who also forwarded the information to the Interior Department.
