Man Tries to Evade Checkpoint Arrested After Found Pretending as Police

Authorities arrested a man who was found pretending to be a police after he attempted to evade the checkpoint in Zambales.

After attempting to flee the checkpoint on National Highway, Barangay Dolores, Cabangan, Zambales on Tuesday morning, the Cabangan Municipal Police Station arrested a 43-year-old suspect who identified himself as a police officer.

The suspect’s car was flagged down at the checkpoint during the initial investigation. But, rather than slowing down, he accelerates to avoid the checkpoint.

As a result, the police launched a dragnet operation and were able to apprehend the vehicle in question. The driver of the car, who was still wearing an olive green t-shirt with “POLICE” written on it and black denim pants when apprehended, identified himself as “Lt. Col. Dela Cruz.”

There were five minors on board. The suspect was arrested there without showing any identification or any documents related to his police identification, and after authorities confirmed that the suspect’s name was not on the Philippine National Police (PNP) Alpha List.

A.45 caliber pistol with ammunition was also discovered in his car. Multiple charges have been brought against the perpetrator, including violations of the Revised Penal Code’s Articles 177 (Usurpation of Authority) and 179 (Unauthorized Use of PNP Uniform), Republic Act 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearm and Ammunition), and Republic Act 11332.
