Education Workers Now Eligible For Coronavirus Vaccination
COVID-19 VACCINATION – The Department of Education (DepEd) said all education workers are now eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations.
Furthermore, the DepEd emphasized that even those out of the government’s top priority list for vaccination can register via their local government units. During an interview with media outlets, Education Undersecretary Annalyn Sevilla said:
“Yong teachers and education personnel, even if without comorbidities or not seniors, can already register sa LGUs, kasi kasunod na sila as A4 priority [group]“
However, she noted that vaccinations may depend on the volume of vaccinations in their locality. Currently, the Philippines has a limited number of COVID-19 vaccines. As such, a priority list was created to inoculate frontliners first and then essential workers.
Moreover, officials are urging educational workers to get vaccinated as it provides a higher chance to safely reopen schools. This comes in line with various groups calling to reopen schools as students and teachers express woes with the new online classes.
Meanwhile, according to an article from ABS-CBN, three higher education institutions in Metro Manila already received their first doses of the vaccines. Following this, a vaccination commenced which signified a “symbolic” inoculation during the first National Higher Education day.
