Roque Explains New Quarantine Protocols for Inbound Travelers

ROQUE – IATF Spokesman Harry Roque announced the changes on the quarantine protocols for travelers arriving in the Philippines.

Most countries now got restrictions set for the inbound travelers amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The detection of new variants raised the challenge set in the fight against the spread of the virus.

The Philippines is one of the nations that recorded COVID-19 cases – which has a total of over one (1) million cases logged in the country now. At least 8,000 new cases of the disease are recorded in PH daily for several weeks now.

The entire PH is still under community quarantine measures. Metro Manila is currently under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Recently, the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID-19 made changes on the protocols set for the travelers arriving in the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, IATF spokesman Harry Roque announced that the testing for COVID-19 for inbound travelers will take place on the 7th day since their arrival to the country.

The quarantine period remains at 14 days but the facility-based quarantine is increased to 10 days. The remaining four (4) days will be a home quarantine for those who will test negative for COVID-19.

The Philippines has opened its borders for foreign travelers provided that they must abide with the protocols and comply with the requirements set by the government. Currently, the country is in the pursuit to achieve the “herd immunity” through vaccinating the people.

The healthcare workers and the seniors citizens are the top priority in the vaccine. Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. is confident that the country will achieve the target this year.
