Dad Transfers 7 Daughter To New School After Teacher Forcefully Cuts 7-Year-Old’s Hair
TEACHER FORCEFULLY CUTS 7-YEAR-OLD’S HAIR – A father had to transfer his daughter to a different school after a teacher cut her hair without consent.
Hairstyle compliance are common for some schools. However, some teachers take it too far. Meanwhile, others just cut hair just because they want to.
Recently, a 7-year-old girl game home crying after her teacher forcefully cut her hair. According to the child, a classmate chopped off her hair with scissors while riding the school bus.
A complaint was filed to the school and the child, Jurnee Hoffmeyer was sent to the hairdresser to get it styled asymmetrically. However, after two days, Jurnee came back home with the hair on the other side cutaway. Based on an article from Unilad, the father said:
She was crying. She was afraid of getting in trouble for getting her hair cut…
I asked what happened and said ‘I thought I told you no child should ever cut your hair. She said ‘but dad, it was the teacher.’ The teacher cut her hair to even it out.
When Hoffmeyer reported this to the school, the most severe punishment they could give the teacher was a “note” on her work file. As such, the parents filed a complaint and started a movement that could help improve the quality of a child’s schooling.
Following the incident, Jennifer Verlege, District Superintendent said:
Regardless of their good intentions, these actions were unacceptable and show a lack of judgment on the part of our two employees. Both are being reviewed for further disciplinary actions in accordance with school policies and procedures.
